Science

What We Did Today
We corrected worksheet 1-3 then watched a Bill Nye video on Cells. Students were then given the study guide for Thursday's Chapter one test.

Homework
Complete the study guide for Wednesday's class. (Below are the questions)

·        -State the three points of the cell theory.

·        -What allowed us to learn more about cells?

·        -Know the function of the major parts of the cell including:

o       Cell wall, Cell membrane, Nucleus, Chromatin, Cytoplasm, Mitochondria, Chloroplast, Vacuole, Ribosomes

·        -Describe the four main kinds of organic molecules in living things. (What do they do for the cell? Why are they important?)

o       Carbohydrates, Proteins (amino acids, enzymes), Lipids, Nucleic acids:

·        -How is water important to the function of cells?

·        -Describe the three methods by which materials move into and out of the cell.

o       Diffusion, Osmosis, Active transport

·        -What is the difference between passive and active transport?

·        -How can you distinguish a plant cell from an animal cell? (There are three components to the answer.)

·        -Contrast mitochondria and chloroplast.

·        -Explain the importance of the cell membrane.

Discussion Starters
