We turned in our Penny Lab today. As an introduction to the International System of Measurement, we watched a Bill Nye video on Measurement. Following the video, we read the first page of our Measurement Packet. We will work on the rest of the packet on Monday.

No homework. However, students may want to check over their Daily Science packet. We have completed the first 12 so we are ready for a quiz. If a student has been absent, it is their responsibility to makeup what they missed.

We took our test on the Scientific Method and Process Skills. When students were done they were given time to work on their conclusion from the Penny Lab - it must be done for tomorrow.
 
Homework
Complete conclusion for Penny lab. This should be completed on the same paper as you collected your data. The conclusion should include the answer to your original question. You should support your claim with specific data from your investigation. You should also reflect on how the lab went. What went will during the lab? If you were to redo this experiment to make it more accurate what exactly would you do?

We learned about the three different kinds of variables and how to identify them. Students were asked to practice identifying these on "Follow the Bouncing Ball". We shared the hypothesis that the students wrote last night for homework. We then did an activity to see how many drops of water can fit on a penny. Following the activity, we generated a list of variables that could be changed to cause a different outcome. With their partners, they generated an inquiry question and hypothesis that they will test out tomorrow.

What We Did Today
We learned about qualitative and quantitative observations. We then went outside and had a scavenger hunt find both types of observations. We will take 10 minutes tomorrow to finish this in class.

Students were given a sheet of paper with a border that represents a frame. By this Friday, students need to fill this picture and frame with pictures and words that represent them.  Students first and last names are to written prominently on the front. This is to be neat, creative and colorful.

We got into groups to finish the activity, "Lost on the Sixth Moon of the Justinian System." Once all the groups were complete, students were informed if they "survived" the mission. 
They were then given a few minutes to work on their reflection.
 
Homework
"Lost on the moon..." reflection: In four to five sentences, discuss how your group worked together. Give specific examples. Did everyone share equally? Did you stand up for yourself? How could you or your group have been more successful? This should be written out on looseleaf, please put the date on the paper as well as your full name.
