What We Did Today
We learned how to use a microscope. We cut out the letter "d" from the newspaper, made a wet-mount slide, and observed it under the low and medium power objective lens. Students should have the first and fourth page completed by tomorrow's class. They will have time to do page 5 tomorrow.
Homework
- Color-coded from pages 16-22 are due on tomorrow.
- START THE EGG-SPERIMENT IF YOU HAVE NOT!!!!! Remember, you need eleven consecutive days so if you are going away for break you will need to start it when you get back home. We will be learning about how a cell membrane works and the egg will be our model. Students will first dissolve the shell in vinegar to expose the membrane. Then, they will soak the egg is a variety of liquids and observe how the egg changes as it takes in or loses water through the membrane. Students will keep a daily record of their observations and measurements for 11 consecutive days. A report will follow the data collection. Students were given a written description of the activity as well as a data sheet and measuring tapes. The tentative due date for the data collection and report is March 19th so plan accordingly.
