Cell Unit
What makes something alive? List the characteristics of all living things.
Give three examples of living and non-living things.
What is the cell theory?
Organisms can either be single celled such as ___________ or ___________or multi-cellular such as ____________, ____________ or _____________.
What to all cells need?
Both plant and animals are made up of many organelles. Plant cell have some organelles that animal cell do not. Describe the function of the following organelles:
· Cell wall:
· Chloroplasts:
· Vacuole (how/why is it different in a plant cell?):
Plant and animal cells share many of the same organelles and the functions are similar. Describe the function of the following:
- Nucleus:
- Ribosome:
- Mitochondria:
- Cell membrane:
Describe the process of diffusion.
What is osmosis?
The two above processes are an example of passive transport because ______________.
What is active transport?
Plants store a large amount of water in their vacuoles to undergo photosynthesis. They also store energy throughout the plant in the form of sugar. What parts of the plant can you find stored energy?
What happens during photosynthesis? Describe where and how it occurs.
All energy used by living things comes from the ______________.
Define the following terms and give a few examples of each.
- Producer:
- Consumer:
- Decomposer:
Is this true for single-celled and multi-cellular organisms?

The following terms either need to be defined on the quiz or are part of the definition and you need to understand the word to answer the question. I would take each term and try to come up with as many questions that you can, that would contain the term.
· Photosynthesis
· Chloroplasts
· Chlorophyll
· Pigment
· Stomata
· Raw material
· Mitochondria
· Products
· Carbon dioxide
· Oxygen
· Water
· Glucose
· Autotroph
· Heterotroph

APRIL QUESTION
The March Miracle event at Norup helps to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The money raised helps fund cancer research for a cure to leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and melanoma. This is only one of many great causes. Your assignment for this month is to write a one page paper on an organization (other than our March Miracle event) that uses pphysical activity to help fund-raise. Include: the name of the organization; the activity participants do; why you chose this event and why the money is raised.
